LOFT CONVERSION DARRAS HALL
Richard turner got in touch with the luxury loft company after not being successful with a number of other builders lacking the knowledge to take on his proposed loft conversion. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to use the space for but knew he had a great space that was going to waste in the form of a trussed loft. mr turner is a business man himself and was easy to work with and therefor after I throw some ideas at him regarding best use of the space and which will add the most value to his home we come up with another mater bedroom with en suite and a office for me turner to make calls and address business away from his busy family home.The build it’s self was more of a challenge then our usual projects but nothing to worry us, the architect come in and between myself him and the engineer we come up with a full proof plan to get the maximum head height and floor space we could. The build took about 5 week in total from plans to paint. A slight hiccup in the wet room en suit with the tiling which was addressed quickly and efficiently. Over all mr turner and his family are very happy with the new part of there home and couldn’t wait to move in. Take a look
Planning permission for this loft conversion Darras Hall
Mr Turner didn’t need planning permission for his loft conversion as it was a roofline, Velux conversion, and so didn’t change any of the main structure of the roof. This will normally be the case in the North East and Newcastle.
The windows were slightly larger than the normal Velux windows that we use, due to the height available for this conversion. This posed no problem for us and everything went smoothly. We transformed the space into 2 Bedroom’s, consisting of a master bedroom at the rear and a smaller bedroom at the front of the loft. We boxed around the chimney breast in each room to make a feature of them, as requested by the customer.
Mr McGregor was very involved at every stage of the loft conversion which suits the way we work so we can ensure that the customer is happy with progress and how things are heading.
The customer also decided he wanted to change the standard staircase to an open-rise staircase midway through the project. This posed no problem for us and we installed the oak, open-rise staircase which allowed more light into the area. As we were completing the staircase we were asked to continue with the hallway area and re-plaster all of the walls, fitting a new floor, fit new door frames and some very nice, solid oak fire rated doors throughout.
The garage was a simple, straight forward build as the customer only wanted it for storage and for a vehicle and didn’t need any electricity – similar to other garages in and around that area of Newcastle. Plastic windows and a glide-roll, roller shutter door. We fitted a rubber roof, as we do with all of our work – giving a 25 year manufacturers warranty and a life expectancy of 50 years.
